About this site

Dead Dog Hut is a standard six-bunk hut in the Hawke's Bay region, built in 1959 by the NZ Forest Service. It has stream water supply and an open fire suitable for cooking, situated at 500m altitude. Its name comes from reports of deer cullers' dogs dying of distemper there. Access is from No Man's Road via Big Hill Station.
